January 2008 Fishing Report
I am pleased to announce that the stream restoration project on lower Spring Creek has been completed. Once again the fellas from Urbani and Associates out of Bozeman MT did a magnificent job. As many of you know the fishing on lower Spring Creek can be flat out amazing but parts of this beat were very shallow and held very few if any fish. A major component of this project was to deepen these shallow areas in order to provide better holding water and, to a lesser extent, re-shape some of the prime spawning habitat in hopes of attracting more spawning fish in the future. I can’t wait to show all of you the finished product this summer. I know I’ve said this before, but I know of nowhere on earth that offers the variety of truly world-class fishing we have here at 3 Creek Ranch.
I will be heading to Argentina Jan 17th and plan to spend several days fishing the waters of southern Patagonia. I have been traveling to this part of Argentina for close to 20 years. Not only is there great fishing but the scenery is amazing and the people are generous and kind. This year Bob Markstein, a 3 Creek lot owner, will be joining me on the trip. Bob has been to Argentina but has never been to this part of the country. I am looking forward to our trip and will report back when we return. Prime time (Jan and Feb) books up months in advance so I have already booked space for 2009. The fishing dates for the next trip are Jan 18th thru 24th 2009. This trip will include a couple of days at the beginning in Buenos Aires, 7 days of fishing and then a return to Buenos Aires for a day before heading back home. If you are interested in joining me next year let me know. I would love to show you this special part of the world.
Finally, I am very happy to let you know that John Merritt will be returning for the 2008 season. John recently landed a great job down at the southern tip of Argentina. Several of the finest fishing lodges in the world are located in this part of Tierra Del Fuego. John will be supervising the tagging and monitoring of the huge sea run brown trout that return from the ocean to the Rio Grande and its tributaries. You think our fish are big…how about 20-35lb brown trout! These fish are flat out HUGE! Many of the best fishermen in the world endure a couple of days of travel to make this pilgrimage each year. John will be working with these guys and I know this experience will add another level to John’s guiding repertoire. This is a great opportunity and I can’t wait to hear all about it when he returns in late March.
All the best to everyone for 2008!
