Spring 2006
2006 Trip to the Argentine Patagonia with The Fish Guy
Visiting the Patagonia region of Argentina is on every fly fisherman's short list of dream vacations. The Patagonia region of Argentina is a
huge place and there are many options from low budget fish bum packages to 4 star exclusive estancias. In addition there are thousands of miles of trout
water to explore. Deciding what part of Patagonia to visit and which outfitter to use can be a difficult decision. Jim's top pick of outfitters are the fellas that
own and operate Esquel Outfitters.
A trip to Patagonia should be about more than fishing. Don't get me wrong, this
is a fishing trip, but TFG also wants you to learn a little about the history, the
culture, the food, the natural world and the people of this part of Argentina.
That's what the guys that run Esquel Outfitters do better than all the rest.
They headquarter a couple hours south of Bariloche in the towns of Cholila
and Esquel. This is wild and beautiful country with very few people and just a
handful of other fisherman.
There are a variety of itineraries available depending on how many days we will be in
the country. We will also have the choice of staying in local
hosterias, guest cabins on large the stars on multi-day float
trips. Generally the itineraries are a mix of all these options.
These are not "first cabin" accommodations. They are all
clean and comfortable and a great way to meet a variety of the local
people who call Patagonia home. These people will open up their homes to us
and do their best to make us feel like one of the family. Don't expect fancy
meals...expect good home cooking, good local wines and a chance to see
how these wonderful people really live. The fishing will be a mix of floating
large rivers, wade fishing small to medium sized streams and occasionally
float fishing lakes. Expect a mix of browns and rainbows and the occasional
brook trout. You'll fish dries about 25% of the time and nymphs and streamers 75%
of the time. The fish will run on average 10-20 inches. If
you have always wanted to visit Patagonia, sample the fishing and see how the people there
really live, - this is your chance. I look forward to spending time together in this remote and
beautiful place.
So there you have it...two of TFGs favorite winter fishing
destinations. If you are interested in either of these trips let me know and
we'll discuss pricing and start to work on dates that work for everyone involved.
Both trips are great for families and small groups of friends. If you have
questions or want to talk over other details give me a call or send me an
email.
