Spring 2006
2006 Trip to the South Island of New Zealand with The Fish Guy
Ask the Fish Guy his favorite spot on earth and he'll tell you New Zealand.
It's a trout fisherman's paradise. Let's see...stunning scenery, ten lifetimes of trout streams to explore (no kidding),
BIG fish, and really great people make this winter getaway a homerun.
I have
hosted both low budget trips staying in
family run motels and farmstays, hiring
local guides and eating dinner at local
pubs to staying in the finest lodges,
like Lake Rotaroa Lodge, and fishing
in the lap of luxury. I love it all and
would be happy to show you what New
Zealand it all about. The standard
itinerary includes
both options. To do
this right we'll want to
spend a minimum of
2 weeks on this trip.
Each leg of the trip
will be about 5 days,
and with a few days
of travel thrown in, 2
weeks will go by very
quickly. Since most of
For the past 20 years I've been hosting fly fishing trips
all over the world. I've been to the wilds of Alaska, to
the southern tip of Argentina, to the tropics of Belize, to
the fjords of Chile and to the rugged backcountry of New
Zealand...just to catch a fish...doesn't make much sense
does it? Well it's been great fun and along the way I've seen
some cool stuff and have developed relationships with some
of the world's finest lodges, outfitters and guides. If a part
of you has always wanted to be a global fish bum then I hope
you and your friends will join me as I continue to search
out the best fly fishing
destinations in the world. I
promise we'll have a good
time, a few laughs and
maybe even catch a fish or
two. These guided trips are
just another of the many valuable services provided to you
through the Fly Fishing Program here at 3 Creek Ranch.
Both the New Zealand and Argentina trips are available to
homeowners, members and their guests.
our time will be spent fishing you may
want to arrive a few days before or stay
a few days after and spend some time
sightseeing, hiking, visiting wineries
or just hanging out and relaxing. This
is a truly an amazing place and worth
exploring for a few extra days.
Let's talk fishing...this is BIG
fish country. I'd say the fish average
3-5lbs, a good fish will be 6-8lbs and
there are fish OVER 10lbs. These are

big, wild, beautiful fish. All the fishing
is on foot and the wading is generally
pretty easy. The Kiwi guides are some of
the best in the world. These fellas take
pride in providing first rate service in
a professional manner. This won't be
dawn 'til dusk fishing. If you want a trip
where you pound it all day everyday this
isn't the trip for you. This is also not
the trip to take if you are into catching
lots of fish. On a normal day expect to
land about 2 fish. Unlike most fishing
trips you will have down time and you
will get plenty of sleep. This is the
ideal trip to bring a non-fishing spouse
or friends as there are all kinds of other
outdoor activities close by. Be ready to
relax and have FUN. There is nowhere
on earth like New Zealand and I hope
we get a chance to check it out together.
