Jackson Hole is known as a ski town but 3 Creek Ranch is its first private golf community. Set on 710 acres just five minutes from downtown, it is named for the Spring Gulch, Cody and Blue Crane creeks that run through the property, making for out-your-front-door fly fishing. There are three categories of ownership: 87 cabin homes on lots that average over half an acre; estate lots, from 1.5 to 5 acres; and several 35-acre ranch parcels. You won’t be cramped.

Woods elected to buy an estate lot in 2004 when the community plan was first announced. It looks like a smart investment: business is booming in Jackson Hole but only 3 percent of the land here is privately owned, making real estate a prized commodity. There’s also no state income tax in Wyoming. Rees Jones designed the golf course, which boasts stunning views of the Grand Tetons.
