Week of September 24 - September 30

Greetings from the Nature Center,

This is the last weekly schedule I am sending out for the summer season.  I want to send out my sincere gratitude to all of you for a sharing in a very enjoyable season.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance in any way.

Please find below the schedule of events for the upcoming week of September 24.

Respectfully,
Roger

Weekly Schedule
Monday, september 24

Road Cycling: Moose to Jenny Lake
Time: 9 AM – 12:30 PM
Place: Meet at the Nature Center at 9 AM

Description:  We’ll load up the bikes at the Nature Center, drive north to Moose and begin this ride at Dornan’s. This entire ride to Jenny Lake and back is along the stress-free pathway. Expect one hill to the top of Windy Point, then flat terrain and perhaps wildlife viewing through one of the most scenic bike rides in the world.

Bring: bike, helmet, water bottles, warm layer, sunscreen. Refreshments and restroom at Moose and Jenny Lake.
Notes: Please stop by or give me a call if you need help preparing your bike or other cycling needs.

Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 25

Road Cycling: 3 Creek Ranch – Jenny Lake
Time: 9 AM – 1:30 PM
Place: Meet at the Nature Center at 9 AM
Difficulty: Strenuous
Mileage:  49 miles R/T      Maximum Elevation: 6,790'      Elevation Gain: 970'

We will start this ride from the Nature Center, follow the bike path into town and continue north the entire day on the bike path to Jenny Lake. Although this is one of the longest bike rides on the schedule, it is a stress-free ride along mostly flat terrain on the pathway system. Expect two short climbs to our day, Fish Hatchery Hill and to the top of windy Point just past the Moose entrance station. Water, food and restrooms in Moose and Jenny Lake.

Bring: bike, helmet, water bottles, sunscreen.
Notes: Food is available in both Moose and Jenny Lake, but I recommend starting out with some of your favorite foods. Please stop by or give me a call if you need help preparing your bike or other cycling needs.

Wednesday, SEPTEMBER 26

Road Cycling:  Cedron Road Loop - Victor, Idaho
Time: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Place: Meet at the Nature Center at 8:30 AM
Difficulty: Moderate
Mileage:  26.5 miles R/T      Maximum Elevation: 6,193'      Elevation Gain: 460'

We’ll load up our bikes at the Nature Center and begin/end this ride in Victor, Idaho. This is a very enjoyable ride along the rural back roads of the west side of Victor, Idaho along the base of the Big Hole Mountains. We will start and finish this ride at Fitzgerald’s bike shop in victor, Idaho. We can expect relatively flat terrain with small dips and rises on a quiet road that offers continuous views of Teton Valley and the west side of the Tetons. The northern end of our route takes us through Driggs, Idaho, where we return to Victor along the pathway. Great coffee and treats at Fitzgerald’s Bike shop awaits us at the finish.

Bring: bike, helmet, water bottles, warm layer, sunscreen.
Notes: Note early meeting time at the Nature Center. We will be riding on the County road, but we can expect minimal traffic. Please stop by or give me a call if you need help preparing your bike or other cycling needs.

Thursday, SEPTEMBER 27

Birding Walk: South Park Management Area
Time: 8:30 AM – 11 AM
Place: Meet at the Nature Center at 8:30 AM
Difficulty: Easy

Description:  Please join me for a very casual morning bird walk along the South Park levee. While we see fewer birds with the arrival of fall, we will still enjoy a very pleasant 2 mile walk on a maintained two-track road through gallery cottonwood and willow forest adjacent to the Snake River. I encourage all of the ‘beginner birders’ out there to join us, as my goal is simply to enjoy a morning walk and to help you ‘See more birds’…

Bring: Binoculars, water bottle, warm layer, sunscreen.
Notes: Mornings have been chilly! 8:30 meeting time at the Nature Center. I have three pairs of binoculars to loan for the morning. Please stop by or give me a call if I can answer any questions.
