Nordic Program – Track Update
December 10, 2016

Greetings Everyone,

I want to provide an update on the conditions of our Nordic track. In the past 24 hours, we have received over 14 inches of new snow along with temperatures that have ranged from -8F to the current 35F and light rain! As locals will say, if you don’t like the weather, just wait a little while...These conditions have made it very difficult to maintain a skiable track, and based on my contacts around the valley, no other nordic track is being groomed until temperatures and the snowpack stabilize. When appropriate, we will continue to groom the track with our snowmobile, and we hope to have the Piston-Bully running by mid-to later next week. As of today, the unmaintained track is skiable only for traditional cross-country touring ski technique.

This forecast might hold for tomorrow as well, and please keep an eye on our daily track updates that Dan sends each morning via Twitter. Should you desire to walk along the track, we kindly ask that you walk only on the edge of the underlying groomed track. Lastly, we ask for your patience during the next several days as we get through this weather cycle and we have the track back in a skiable condition. 3 Creek Ranch Nordic Schedule
December 12, 2016 – December 18, 2016

Monday, December 12
Ski Tour: Phelps Lake Tour (snow, high teens)
Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Place: Meet at the Nordic Center at 9:30 am.
Description: MODERATE; 4.6 miles R/T
Elevation Gain: 270’
Maximum Elevation: 6644’
We will begin this tour at the Granite Creek parking area, located at the end of the Village Road just inside GTNP. We will ski along the Moose-Wilson Road north about 1.25 miles, gaining only 100’ of elevation. We then turn west on the old entrance road to the JY Ranch and ski the remaining mile, and 170’ elevation gain to the lake shore.
Notes on what to bring:
Recommended gear for all our Ski Tours: a small daypack, insulated water bottles, (a small thermos of hot tea or cocoa is always a pleasure to have), lunch/snacks. Clothing: although all of us warm up and cool down in a unique manner..we strongly recommend wearing any combination of light-to-mid weight layers such as smartwool or capilene, and maybe a thin down vest (anything non-cotton!) that can be removed or added based on weather conditions and level of exertion; a lightweight outer shell jacket, extra warm layer such as a light weight down puffy jacket for a lunch stop; and consider having both a light-weight and heavier-weight hat and gloves.
