Nordic Program – Track Update
January 11, 2017

Greetings,

The skiing has been fantastic…we sure have plenty of snow right now. I’d like to acknowledge the really hard work and long hours that Dan, Brandon and the rest of the crew are putting into our Nordic track…and for keeping us plowed and shoveled out. We greatly appreciate all you are doing for us!

We look forward to skiing with all of you, and as always, let us know if we can be of assistance in any way.

All my best to you and yours,
Roger & Nathan

3 Creek Ranch Nordic Schedule
January 16 – January 22, 2017

- Monday, January 16
Ski Tour: Two Ocean & Emma Matilda Lake Loop
Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Location: Meet at the Nordic Center at 9:00 AM
Mileage: 6.0 miles R/T loop trail,
Elevation Gain: 685’     Maximum Elevation: 7,050’.

Description:
Moderate
For those who missed our tour here a few weeks ago.. From Jackson, we will drive about 30 miles north on WY Hwy 89 to Moran Junction, then about another mile past the GTNP entrance to Pacific Creek Road. We’ll continue another 1 1/2 miles to the Two Oceans Lake Road trailhead on the left. Our trail follows the summer park service road for about 2 miles to Two Oceans Lake’s northeast corner. From here, we travel 1.5 miles southwest through beautiful forests and meadows along the north side of Emma Matilda Lake. At the top is an open meadow and sweeping view of Emma Matilda Lake to the south, and the Teton Range to the southwest. We’ll continue through forest and meadows on the final 2.5 miles back to the trailhead. Expect a moderate climb of roughly 200’ at the start of our tour, and a very short but moderate down section after Emma Matilda Lake. There will be no facilities.

Notes on what to bring:
Recommended gear for all our Ski Tours: a small daypack, insulated water bottles, (a small thermos of hot tea or cocoa is always a pleasure to have), lunch/snacks. Clothing: although all of us warm up and cool down in a unique manner…we strongly recommend wearing any combination of light-to-mid weight layers such as smartwool or capilene, and maybe a thin down vest (anything non-cotton!) that can be removed or added based on weather conditions and level of exertion; a lightweight outer shell jacket, extra warm layer such as a light weight down puffy jacket for a lunch stop; and consider having both a light-weight and heavier-weight hat and gloves. As always, contact me if I can help you with these types of Nordic clothing.
Length and destination of the tour is weather dependent.

- Monday, January 16

The intent is a casual ski among friends, or a time to meet new friends who share a love for Nordic skiing, maybe pick up a few ski pointers along the way and most importantly have fun sharing the morning among good company.

Join us for a day of skate skiing over the pass in beautiful Teton Canyon. Located at the base of the Targhee Hill Road, just past Alta, Wyoming, this is nothing shy of a spectacular place to spend a day Nordic skiing. We will ski on a wellgroomed trail along the winding road that ends at the Teton canyon campground.

Notes on what to bring: I recommend bringing a small bag with a few extra dry layers of clothes for the drive home. As always, snacks, lunch and water, even a small thermos is nice to have. We can always stop for a cup of hot cocoa or coffee on the way home...This is a skate ski clinic day, but you are most welcome to join us and enjoy the day on your classic skis on the groomed classic lanes.
Length and destination of the tour is weather dependent.
