3 Creek Ranch Nordic Skiing Update

Greetings from the Nordic Center,

Our track is back!! After a week of very difficult weather conditions, our faithful grooming crew have our track back in world-class condition.  Although we are expecting another round of variable weather conditions later this week, please take the time to come out and enjoy this remarkable winter amenity.

I have included, as an attachment, the schedule for the upcoming week of February 20-26.

A reminder that as snow and temperature conditions change, and your skis are not gliding as they should, please let us help by waxing and tuning your skis to best match these conditions.

As always, we are here to help in every way possible.

Respectfully,
Roger
Nathan

3 Creek Ranch Nordic Schedule
February 20 – February 26, 2017

- Monday, February 20
Location: Shadow Mountain-Animal Tracks and Sign
Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Place: Meet at the Nordic Center at 9:00 AM
Mileage: 4 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 150'   Max Elevation: 6,385’
Description: Easy
We will begin this tour at the end of the plowed road about 3.5 miles north of the Science School Road on Antelope Flats Road. We will remain on the snow-covered sage brush flats at the base of Shadow Mtn, then ski east to circumnavigate a series of small timbered islands. These little ‘islands’ can produce some of the most interesting and fun animal tracks to discover and follow, including coyote, weasel, mouse, vole, snowshoe hares to name a few. This is a relaxing way to learn more about the winter environment, animal tracks and sign in winter, and some of the interesting adaptations animals have devised to cope with the stresses of our winter environment…both above and below the blanket of snow we ski on. This a relaxing ski over easy terrain, great vistas and spectacular lunch spot!

Notes: Recommended gear for all our Monday Ski Tours: a small daypack, insulated water bottles, (a small thermos of hot tea or cocoa is always a pleasure to have), lunch, an extra warm layer, hat and gloves, hand warmers. A nice lightweight ‘puffy jacket’ is highly
recommended and a perfect warm layer for our lunch stop.
