Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb

Date: Saturday, August 05, 2017 (always the first Saturday in August)
Time: 8:00 am
Location: JHMR, Teton Village
Tickets: $40 - June 1 to August 3rd

The annual race might be the most demanding climb of the entire summer race series in the west. Compete in competitive (with age groups) or the non-competitive category during a 6.1 mile race. Doesn't sound too bad right? Tack on over 4,150' of elevation in that short 6.1 mile run, with the majority raced on singletrack, and the Rendezvous becomes a feat of endurance, stamina, and will power.

The route is the same for all contestants. It starts just outside the Teton Village Commons (near base of Aerial Tram), and races up portions of Wildflower and Cirque Trails then ends atop the Aerial Tram

The Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb is non-profit race run in honor of the longtime JHMR Aerial Tram mechanic Chris Onufer, who on March 7, 2012 tragically passed away in an avalanche.

Total Solar Eclipse

Date: Monday, August 21, 2017
Location: Jackson area falls into the Path of Totality

2017 is the year for Wyoming, particularly for where we reside, to experience the Total Solar Eclipse. We are located in the narrow strip of land (called the path of totality) where the eclipse will pass directly overhead. The Jackson Hole are will experience the eclipse from 10:16 am until 1:00 pm with totality occurring at 11:36:03 with 2 minutes and 15 seconds of totality! During the 10 am to 1 pm timeframe, the moon lines up and blocks the sun from view putting us in shadow and eventual darkness.

The Town of Jackson in conjunction with Teton County have put together an extremely informative website highlighting ever aspect of the Eclipse including viewing areas, maps of the area, tips to avoid highly trafficked areas, and trip planning details.

A few interesting details provided by Teton Eclipse website are below. Head to the specified websites for complete and up-to-date details, and don’t forget your viewing glasses!

• On August 21st of 2017, a rare total solar eclipse will traverse the continental United States from Oregon to South Carolina.

• Jackson Hole and Teton Village happen to fall into the "path of totality" of the Great American Eclipse. That is to say, that in Teton Village and on Rendezvous Peak, we will experience the total eclipse for one of the longest durations possible, 2-3 minutes at 11:34 am MST. The partial phases of the eclipse will last 2-3 hours depending on your specific location, starting around 10:15am.

• Rendezvous Mountain faces east, and the eclipse will be viewable in the southeast corner of the sky.

• Several factors, including fantastic scenery and generally clear summer skies, will make Jackson and Teton Village a desirable destination for eclipse viewing. We're fielding inquiries and experiencing strong demand for access to locations on Rendezvous Mountain for the eclipse.
