The Loop: Fall 2016

3 Creek Ranch Golf Club Update

A Note from the General Manager
Chad Becker, General Manager/CEO
Once again, I would like to congratulate the Turnover Committee, the Board of Directors, the members, and the Staff on becoming the only member-owned private club in Jackson Hole. Between opening the club, preparing for the turnover, the busy summer months, the by-laws revisions, a member satisfaction survey, several focus group sessions, Board retreats, our first Annual Meeting, and the Strategic Planning Process this summer was one of my busiest in my 27 years in the industry.

As we forward in the Strategic Planning process, it is more important than ever to have accurate data available to us for making the best possible decisions for the future of the Club. One of the most important ways for us to track usage data is through the Member/Guest sign-in sheets at the pool, fitness center, Nordic center,  ski club, and other areas of the of the club. Please be sure to register everyone in your party etc time when using any of of these areas to help us moving forward.

The staff is busy shutting down the facilities and shortly will be gearing back up for our winter opening on December 14th. One of the tasks assigned to each Department Head, as well as several committees, has been reviewing our current Rules and Regulations and making recommended updates for the board to review and approve before the next summer season. We have been busier than ever reminding members, their families, and their guests of many of the rules over the past several months. Please make sure everyone attending the club with you has a clear understanding of the club’s dress codes, cell phone use, guest restrictions, golf course etiquette, and all sign-in requirements. This curtesy will enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the Club throughout the entire year.

It is hard to believe that soon we will be blanketed in snow and preparing for a holiday season of dining, ice skating, hockey, platform tennis, fitness, horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, alpine skiing, brunches with Santa, and Gingerbread decorating. Be sure to signup early for all of these wonderful activities and events at the club. Our concierge staff would be happy to assist with any other outing you have in mind throughout the valley as well.

It was an emotional September with Jane’s retirement (and her becoming a grandmother the next day to her beautiful granddaughter Emerson). We are so excited for Jane and her new grand baby and look forward to seeing her around Jackson Hole next summer. As many of you already know, AJ Holding has taken over as the Executive Assistant to the General Manager, and I am looking forward to working with her. Meg Michael is now our Director of Concierge Services and is willing and ready to assist you with all your questions, reservations, and Valley excursions. I also wanted to thank Perry Mullins for the great job he has done for the club and wish him the best as he looks to expand his PGA professional experience.

Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your families. We are excited about the upcoming holiday season and an action packed 2017.

Golf Recap 2016
Greg Glover, PGA, GSEB, Director of Golf
A top ten list of golf course highlights from summer 2016.
1. Record warm temperatures in February forced the early closing of the Nordic ski track.
2. Our H-2B workforce arrived in the nick of time on April 15th.
3. On April 18th, the dirt started flying on hole #16 as we began in-house construction on six new forward tees.
4. Mild spring conditions prompted an early opening of the golf course on May 7th.
5. Drier than normal conditions persisted throughout summer with only 1.9 inches of rainfall in June and August. Which is just 50% of historical average reported by mountainweather.com. The result was many consecutive beautiful golfing days and very few afternoon lightening delays.
6. A heatwave from July 15th to the 30th produced an average temperature of 90 degrees. We also clocked the first day over 95 degrees since 2008 on July 2nd.
7. Lightening caused the Cliff Creek fire in Hoback Canyon on July 17th, kicking off a prolific fire season around Jackson Hole and bringing abundant smoke to the valley.
8. A massive power outage caused by two cows in Idaho Falls left all of East Idaho, parts of Western Wyoming, and Southern Montana without power for 4 hours the afternoon of July 19th. After power had been restored, the golf course irrigation system suffered electrical damages that took a week to repair.
9. Lightning struck the golf course on August 15th and started a brush fire on hole #9. Several trees suffered scorching and caused a 4-inch irrigation line to burst, reminding everyone of the importance of lightening safety training and fire prevention measures.
10. Finally, in mid-September, we started receiving rain. Close to 2.5 inches fell during the month, shattering the Jun-August rainfall total. Colder temperatures followed, and even snow int eh mountains put out all of the fires and produced one of the most spectacular fall color seasons ever. golfing conditions were excellent right through to the end of the month.

Tennis News
Ed Jacques, Director of Tennis
As the cooler mouths arrive, I want to thank all the members, both juniors, and the adults for their continued involvement in the 3 Creek tennis programs. Now it’s time to utilize the paddle tennis court to sustain your net playing skills, as we as keeping your reflexes sharp. This fast paced game is easily adaptable for any tennis player.

Give this port a try by contracting the concierge to book a time. We have paddles and balls for your use located in the Warming Hut.

Tennis participants at 3 Creek continue to grow and I look for even more ladies’ doubles groups being formed. With her weekly emails, Cindy Barnard increased play in the Monday Morning Doubles Group. Both courts were regularly filled Monday - 8 am to 10am, as platers got the chance to rotate partners and play with fellow members on a weekly basis.

On Monday mornings, both veteran players mixed well with those ladies new to the game, such as Vicky Barret and Jessica Moment. My thanks go out to all who made the Monday Group work and my hope is that this organized play group can expand to twice a week.

Special thanks go out to our Concierge Staff who helped make the court reservations/lesson appointments run very effectively, as there were more and more days this season where both courts were filled. Due to more members taking up the game this year, I am certain court usage will increase starting May 2017.

As this season’s tennis program ends, I hope that if you were not able to find a time to experience the 3 Creek Tennis Program this year, I am certain there will be a tennis program in 2017 that will spark your interest. Just contract me during May next year and I will update you on the tennis schedule for 2017. Making tennis part of your lifestyle is not only healthy but compliments your fitness workouts.

Looking forward to getting you and your family involved next year in the sport for a lifetime.

A Note from the Director of Fitness
Lindsey Sosovec, Director of Fitness
As the snow stats to fall (and fly sideways) in Jackson, I can’t help but write about the upcoming ski and snowboard season. Jackson Hole in the winter is an amazing place. Our winter schedule is off to a strong start with Pilates, Yoga, indoor cycling, and two types of ski fit. When you visit, please be sure to sign in so we can track usage.

A Note from the Chef
Tim Husband, Executive Chef
As another summer at 3 Creek comes to a close, I am reminded of how lucky we are to have such dedicated kitchen staff here at the club. It has always been my vision to allow for a certain level of autonomy so that each individual has a culinary voice that can be heard. It makes for an engaged and cohesive unit that feels as if it is the sum of all parts that are responsible for creating memorable dining experiences.

Luis Flores, our Lunch Chef, has been at the club for many years and is responsible for the soups and specials that have become the “signature” of daily dining at the club. Lauren “Sprout” Bennet is the Pastry Chef that has risen to the task of creating one of a kind cakes and desserts. Beau Little, Executive Sous Chef, and I have built a culinary relationship that allows us to push each other to create new and exciting menus and specials to excite our members. On behalf of the entire kitchen staff, I thank you for your continued support of the ever evolving 3 Creek dining experience!
