Nordic Program – Track Update
December 17, 2016

Greetings Everyone,

I just finished a very fast, but very cold ski around our nordic track this morning, and wish to share my delight in stopping to visit with so many skiers out enjoying the track…In just the past two days, the weather has showered us with almost 2 inches of rain, followed by intermittent snow and wind storms, followed by overnight temperatures to 12 below F! As you can imagine, the moisture in the track froze overnight, so please be very careful skiing while the track is this hard. We can expect our track to remain frozen for the next day or two, then soften up a bit as overnight temperatures warm up.  We groomed Friday morning with a Piston-Bully and yesterday with our roller and both the skate and classic lanes are skiing remarkably well given the weather.

I encourage all of you to get out and enjoy the track and this beautiful weather.  I recommend warmer ski layers than normal and a neck gaiter or warm buff as well. If you are waxing at home, we recommend Green glide wax for skating, and Swix VR-30, or Toko X-Cold grip wax for Classic skis.  The existing hard track/snow conditions will quickly strip away the wax off any type of ski, so we recommend letting us professionally wax your skis afterwards.

We’re here to help in every way possible. If you’re new to Nordic skiing, please let us help you select the right clothing and ski equipment, and stop by the Nordic shop to learn more about our instructional clinics we offer throughout the week.

All my best to you and yours,
Roger & Nathan

3 Creek Ranch Nordic Schedule
December 26, 2016 – December 30, 2016

- Tuesday, December 27
Ski Tour: Jenny Lake Tour
Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Place: Meet at the Nordic Center at 9:30 am.
Mileage: R/T to Jenny Lake is 8.4 miles (13.5 km).  Maximum elevation: 6,800’

Description:
Easy, flat terrain.
We will begin this tour at the Cottonwood Creek parking area in GTNP. We will follow the creek north toward Jenny Lake and return along the timbered moraines on the west side of the meadows. Total distance will depend on the group and weather.

Notes on what to bring: Recommended gear for all our Ski Tours:
a small daypack, insulated water bottles, (a small thermos of hot tea or cocoa is always a pleasure to have), lunch/snacks. Clothing: although all of us warm up and cool down in a unique manner..we strongly recommend wearing any combination of light-to-mid weight layers such as smartwool or capilene, and maybe a thin down vest (anything non-cotton!) that can be removed or added based on weather conditions and level of exertion; a lightweight outer shell jacket, extra warm layer such as a light weight down puffy jacket for a lunch stop; and consider having both a light-weight and heavier-weight hat and gloves. As always, contact me if I can help you with these types of Nordic clothing.
Length and destination of the tour is weather dependent.
